Best Thrift Shops in NYC
Since moving to NYC in 2024, I’ve been getting to know the city through small shops and its thriving secondhand scene.
The best secondhand/thrift shopping seems to be clustered around neighborhoods like the East Village, Lower East Side, Williamsburg/Brooklyn, Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, and Chelsea.
If you’re planning a trip to NYC this year, here are some of the thrift and vintage shops that are worth checking out!

Beacon’s Closet (Manhattan / Brooklyn locations)
This is a NYC classic for a reason. Come here when you want the thrill of a find and a real chance of leaving with something genuinely wearable
Housing Works Thrift Shop (Upper West Side / multiple Manhattan and Brooklyn locations)
Great for classic fashion accessories and home pieces type of shopping day. This one’s for you if you like practical finds with elevated charm.
Cure Thrift Shop (East Village)
A little bit curated, a little bit magical. Tons of personality pieces and vintage whether you’re looking for your next handmade handbag, jewels, or unique home goods. Cure Thrift is a non-profit and benefits juvenile diabetes research and advocacy.
City Opera Thrift Shop (Chelsea)
This is the move if you want a more polished thrift experience, designer, vintage, home goods, and jewelry in one stop with a refined taste.
Buffalo Exchange (Chelsea or East Village)
Reliable, easy, and great for modern wardrobe refreshes. Think “I need better jeans, jackets, and everyday pieces” more than “I need a dramatic vintage costume.
2nd STREET (multiple NYC locations)
Excellent for designer/trend crossover without the luxury designer price tag. A great stop if you want clean, current pieces with a little edge.
Awoke Vintage (Williamsburg/ Greenpoint/ Nolita)
Stylish without trying too hard. Great for denim, jackets, tees, and easy statement pieces with an affordable price tag.
Urban Jungle by L Train Vintage (Bushwick)
Big selection and low prices with treasure-hunt energy. Come with time, patience, and a coffee. It’s worth it because you’ll find true unexpectedly good stuff.
Grand Bazaar NYC (Upper West Side)
Year round open flea market mixing artisans and vintage! Lots of food vendors are outside so go with lots of time to spare and you won’t regret it. Dates are in the website
Although not mentioned above, my personal favorite is zig-zagging the chic small shops around Bleeker St. in the West Village which has a small town European charm. If you have some extra day to spare, you can enjoy shopping, food, and local events all in one neighborhood.
